Tom Basile has kept his promises to the people of our area and worked to establish a record of real results for our community. From quality of life to attracting new investment capital to broaden our tax base, Tom's efforts are ensuring our government is more responsive, responsible and committed to working for all of us. During his tenure, more than $500,000,000 in commercial and residential investment have been proposed to in the near future help fuel job creation, increase home values and replace lost tax revenue. Here are some of Tom's most recent accomplishments on behalf of our community:
Historic Stony Point Lighthouse
- Tom kept his commitment to our Fire, EMS and Auxiliary Police Volunteers by introducing and passing new discounts for Town services and programs for them and their families.
- Tom proposed new fiscal controls that put in place five-year capital planning for Town departments.
- Together with Jim Monaghan and dedicated volunteers, a new Town Dog Park opened in 2017.
- Working together with Senator Bill Larkin, Tom helped secure more than $375,000.00 in State grant money to complete the restoration of the historic Pyngyp Schoolhouse, which will serve as a new community center, defray construction costs for the new Dog Park and renovate Stony Point's historic Town Hall.
- Tom has helped ensure we've kept 20% reserve and reduced town residential tax rates.
- Tom introduced and passed a new Stony Point Beautification Program that will make the town more attractive.
- He supported the taping of Town Board meetings to increase transparency.
- During Tom's time as Councilman, he has been working to attract qualified investors to our area. After years of delay we are now making progress toward establishing a thriving waterfront district that will benefit all our residents.
- Tom is also actively working to bring other significant investments to our community that will create hundreds of jobs and provide millions in tax revenue to the Town and North Rockland School District.
- As promised, Tom is also meeting with developers to discuss increasing Stony Point's stock of senior housing.
- After years of inaction, Tom and members of the Board have rezoned the dormant Letchworth property and began actively promoting the redevelopment of the site.
- Tom has been outspoken against both the United Water Desalination Plant, Lego Land and the Champlain Hudson Power Express. These projects would lower home values even further, threaten human health and create congestion in res.
